My Busby SEO Challenge Entry is now top 25!

As of today, this Busby Seo Challenge page is the 21st item down, it’s about 15th not counting sub pages. This is great news because at first I had Busby SEO Contest keyworded through outt my site, I thought I hadn’t been spidered yet, but then I popped up on the Google Webmaster tool as having been indexed on June 2. So I changed everything last Thursday back to Busby SEO Challenge, and I guess Google took another look, and I”m on the first page! Well, I sort by 50 per page.

My goal for tonite is to get the metatags working. Wordpress doesn’t have them built in so I’ll either be editing the header.inc file or looking for a plugin. Google complains when they’re all the same, so that’s why I’m not planning to use the include, unless I can figure out how to get them set up to be different for each page.

Also, if I have time, I’m going to go through some of my online SEO tools. The can be a challenge to use, but I’ve had sites really improve their rankings when things are dialed in. I tried one of the tools on my former company client site, a major real-estate site. They come out number one for a search related to javascript being enabled. Sort of funny. I do plan to send them a suggestion sheet to help them out as soon as I’m not to busy.

What I’ve Learned from this SEO Challenge so far….

This Busby SEO contest was looking a little flakey yesterday at this time, between the Busby server being down and just before that people asking if they could use parts of the keyword phrase, and the previous SEO contest winner asking if they could continue using their previous Busby SEO. Well, I believe that unless everyone uses a fresh domain, this contest is already flawed. Luckly the contest mods get the server back up and let them know they at least couldn’t use domains which used any of the keywords and that eliminated the sphere group, who appear to be willing to do anything short of black hat tricks to win.

So what have I learned? I have a website on growing tomatoes with a blog on it. There’s a few innocuous posts on the blog that I didn’t really think too much about. Since I’ve been researching backlinks lately, I rolled over the names and saw they had back links to porn sites!!!! I haven’t deleted them yet since I think they’re funny.

So I’ve learned that probably quite a few blog posts on the web are probably junk to set up back links, which is a problem with Google’s formula. So now I’m going to be spending time going on to blogs and typing in stuff like “Great article”, and possibly squeezing out a question so some one can respond, so I can respond with another backlink!!!! I understand the concept of ranking a site because of backlinks, but it’s too easy to abuse. So I’ve been googling for unused blogs and making silly but kind posts.

Wordpress is another beast.

Good luck to everyone in this Busby SEO Challenge!

Hello Busby SEO Challenge world!

Welcome to my Busby SEO Challenge site. This is my first SEO challenge, and well we’ll see how it goes. I’m going with a wordpress blog and using a domain I registered about a year ago. I was really looking forward to getting into an SEO contest so I’m very thankful for Busby for putting one on. I’m fastinated by SEO. I have several websites, some which do great for generic terms, and one or two I can’t get to move up anywhere. Search engine optimization is like a puzzle and I like competition.
